Emergency response planning takes on an added importance when considering the possibility of an active shooter situation. Property-level staff face unique challenges in promoting safety of residents, staff, and grounds. IAA has partnered with the Indiana State Police to offer active shooter training to South Bend multifamily professionals.

Police educators will share general safety and response information while also answering questions oriented toward property management. The session includes a screening of a video, review of best practices for safeguarding oneself and others in the event of an active shooter, and a question and answer session. Instructor Sergeant Bohner will lead this interactive presentation.

Topics will include:

- Developing a plan specific to your property/location.

- Reviewing your location’s security.

- Training all staff on emergency response and preparing an emergency kit.

- Dealing with hostile or overwrought people in an effort to de-escalate issues before they become an emergency.

- Communicating and working with police and emergency response agencies.
